Hi, it’s Richard,

had to make a new post today. Because I found great, great…GREAT music again. And because I’m not selfish I decided that I want to share it with you. The artists call themselves Moderat. They are Apparat and Modeselektor. You may or may not know them, but you definitely should!

Modeselektor and Apparat aka Moderat. These two incredibly gifted artists are making killing! But if you think that I’m just kidding, then listen to what they created yourself!

This guy here couldn’t say it better…

“There’s a lot of shiny, new and intelligent electronica
out there in the world right now.
The combined forces of Apparat and Modeselektor
have provided yet another welcome addition.

Ring + Bronsert + Szary = Moderat.

Their eponymous album is an uplifting mix of dark but infectious beats,
shifting multi-layered synthesisers, crackling electricty and emotionally
stirring vocal interludes.

Together they have created some of the most distinctive and affecting
sonic landscapes I have heard so-far this year. (Moby doesn’t even come close).

Despite the visions of stark industrial landscapes
the human is never lost in the machine.

‘Seamonkey’ is a particularly haunting example of intellect and emotion holding hands.
Against a repetitive hypnotic back-beat plaintive synth intrusions evolve slowly into
strangely moving howls. The effect is both uncanny and utterly gripping.

Paul St Hilaire’s husky and energetic vocal contribution on ‘Slow Match’ is a hoot.

‘3 Minutes of’ and its imperceptible transition into ‘Nasty Silence’ provides
six and a half minutes of uplifting ambient bliss and complex poly-rhythmic mayhem.
Unpredictable but entirely coherent.

The jangly opening to ‘Les Grandes Marches’ paves the way for one of the album’s
most satisfying compositions. The wailing voices, almost hidden in the mix,
augment a brilliantly conceived processional ritual.
A ghostly march from somewhere to nowhere.

The fractured minimalist soul of ‘Out Of Sight’ is, for my money,
the high-point of this deftly performed and consummately realised project.
A simply beautiful song.

The collaboration has been more than fruitful.

Highly Recommended.”

Now the next song is one of my favorite as well as the ‘Seamonkey’.
